Our weekend was absolutely insane. We kicked off with a Friday-night goodbye party, generously organized by our Three Amigos – Carrie, Jon and Shannon. Many, many thanks to them and to everyone who took the time to attend and wish us well! We had a blast (at the ever-delicious Chatterbox) and stayed up well past our bedtime. (And as much as I would love to post some photos from said event, well, it’s really hard to take pictures and be farewelled at the same time. FYI.)
When we finally got up on Saturday, it was time to start packing. We spent the entire day not only loading boxes, but writing down EACH packed item on a special form for immigration purposes. Now, I’m as detail-oriented as they come, but this was a whole new level of crazy. I suppose it’s fitting, though, considering how voluntarily moving cross-country and then across the border is not exactly for the sane-of-heart.
Sunday was spent much the same way, slowly transforming our meticulously organized apartment into chaotic piles of paper, cardboard and furniture. By the evening, we had cleared out every cupboard and closet, taken down every last picture frame, and begun to worry (already) that we had packed something important we’ll need.
And just think: this is merely a hint of how we’ll feel for the next several weeks. (Oh my HELL.)

This weekend, Shane, Jon, Shannon, Carrie, Joan (see picture) and I headed out to Green Bay, WI so the boys could run in a "Valentine’s Day" race. It was a whirlwind trip out and back (we spent nearly as much time in the car as out of it), but worth it for the good food and great company.
These are some pics from our excursion; more from this trip (and other recent events) can be found on my Facebook page. Three cheers for digital cameras!
Obviously, it’s been fairly quiet around here recently. Most of you who read this blog know that Shane and I lost a friend in mid-December. (If you wish to read more about this, please see Elena’s touching, thoughtful post here. I think she very eloquently captures a lot of the emotions we’ve all experienced.) Suffice to say, it’s been a strange couple of weeks, juggling time spent mourning with friends and celebrating the holidays with our families.
But now 2008 is here, and it feels appropriate to start off by simply saying to everyone: thank you. Thank you for your love, your support, your tears and laughter, your presence and your presents, and most of all your solid hugs (real or virtual) that came with no time limits. We are lucky to be surrounded by so many caring individuals. May the new year hold for you the amazing possibilities we hope it holds for us.
Here are belated pictures from this year’s Monster Mash (view last year’s here)! As you can see, everybody had to get his/her picture taken with Scut, my giant hairy spider. Since it’s December and I can’t remember half of what the costumes were supposed to be, I’ll let you GUESS what they were. And hopefully someone will be kind enough to tell you if you’re right.
