...but our hearts go out to those that aren't.
EDITED TO ADD: We didn’t hear about the bridge collapse until about an hour after it happened (via Fark, natch). I flipped on the TV to figure out what the hell was going on. As we took in the live images of the incredible damage for the first time, we heard sirens filling the air. But we don’t live near the accident, so I went outside to see what was up.
Less than a block down the street, two squad cars and three fire trucks had surrounded a gas station. The pumps were cleared of all cars, except a lone RV that was cautiously being inspected by people in uniform. Add to this mix the ominous dark clouds overhead (and the blood-red sunset peeking through), and you can understand the sinking feeling I had that everything was going wrong and the world was possibly maybe kind of about to end.
So we made phone calls. We sent emails. We even went grocery-shopping. We did these things to assure ourselves that everyone we knew was okay and that the world was still a safe place for routine, mundane errands.
Yet I still haven’t shaken off this lingering sense of dread. Tragic events like this are so different when they happen in your backyard. When I see catastrophes in other states, in entirely different countries, I feel sad...and then I move on. But having it be a familiar place – a bridge we’ve driven on! and run underneath! – it’s harder to bounce back to feeling like ”everything is completely normal” again.
But we’ll get there; we're still okay (and we're glad you are, too).
On Friday night last week, Shane and I attended a viewing of the British Advertising Awards (2006) with a few friends. We were all thoroughly entertained by what we witnessed, so I thought I would hunt down a few You Tube links so you could enjoy the highlights (the ones I could find, anyway). Without further ado, here are a handful of the overall favorites. Enjoy!

A fun "experiment" of sorts:

Yes, this is 100% real (shot on the streets of San Francisco):
Definitely beats the Budweiser frogs:
You won't believe your ears:
Proof of the saying “less is more”:
Shameless anthropomorphism,
but with a combination of images, music and message that's pretty damn cool:
